Progress....

We are finally making some progress on the house...slowly but atleast progress!!! Our hardwood floors were ordered today and they are BEAUTIFUL!!! I am so in love in love with EVERYTHING about them!! The carpet has been chosen, paint colors...well almost chosen!! There have been so many decisions....Insurance is covering painting all the kids rooms and our master bedroom...all of which I was hoping to paint myself this summer...so YAY that its getting done and not by me!! We are still several weeks away from moving home...but atleast I see an end in sight!! I have one last BIG decision and I need all of you help. I have this idea with our island in the kitchen...I've found a picture that shows EXACTLY what I think I want. Our floors and cabinets will be the dark color shown in the picture....so tell me what you think about the white island...honest opinions please!!! Have a Great Weekend, Jen

I LOVE the white island. I think it adds the perfect contrast in a sea of dark wood. It is what I would pick for my kitchen remodel when (and if) it ever happens!

I think rather than stark white, I'd go with a more antique or aged white with a glaze to compliment the darker wood. It's going to be SO different than before....and you are sooo brave to do it. Remember though that it's *your* kitchen...do what you know you like and that you will be happy with years and years down the road.

Good luck and I can't wait to see it!
I know you will be so happy when it's all done and you're back home again settled.

I love the white - but try to picture it with finger prints or scuff marks all over it. (as I sit here looking at my white fireplace hearth that has the same!)

With your situation, you might want to consider something with texture that will be easy to wipe clean.

I think the white island is beautiful! If you really love it, go for it!

I agree with Melissa, I think a creamier white would be better. And easier to clean possibly!

Thanks ladies!! Now keep in mind that all my wood work is white, white...do you think if we did go with a cremier white on the island it would look OK...that was my only concern with adding another shade of white. Thanks for the opinions...keep um coming!! ~J

Hey there! I am a first timer on your blog and I really enjoyed it. I was just about to ask what kind of camera you used and then I realized that you are a professional...no wonder all of your pictures are GORGEOUS & VIBRANT! What a gift to have such a beautiful documentation of your kids lives.

As far as the kitchen goes, I happen to be a Kitchen Designer:) The contrast is always much more interesting so go for it! I happen to agree with the antiqued/glazed suggestion that someone else had mentioned. Even if your woodwork is white white you should be safe! And that's my two sense:)

Great finding your blog!

I thought of cleaning it and finger prints right off, but it seems we are all in agreement. Go with the contrast - most won't notice if the island color is not the same as the woodwork. Trust me there are two or three things in my kitchen that do not match and I bet you don't know what I am talking about?!?
It will be great! Can't wait to see it!

Okay - I was thinking the picture WAS of your kitchen - not what you were hoping for! I think it's gorgeous - as is. :)

Take care, talk soon!
